Clara Beard was born 3 January 1859 in Illinois, the daughter of Edward T. and Deborah M. Beard. By 1870 she had moved Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri. Clara married John Jesse Garrett abt. 1877. John died 27 December 1911 in Wichita leaving Clara to raise their adopted son Robert, age 11, who they adopted when he was an infant. Five children are known to be born to this union. She married Letcher H. Jones on 9 August 1913 in Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma. Clara died 17 September 1925 and is buried in the Highland Cemetery in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.
