Description

  • Charley M Garrison was born abt. 1836 in Rockville, Indiana. He moved with his family to the Kansas territory by 1853 before settling in Wichita by 1870. He married Sarah M. Grantham in 1871, shortly after coming to Wichita. She was born abt. 1847.
  • Charley ran the first harness and saddle business in Wichita for many years. He bought many buffalo hides from the traders who came in the area. He retired from the harness business in 1912.
  • Charley established the first mail route in Wichita in January 1870. The route ran from Wichita to El Dorado, KS. The pioneer was also a Mason for 60 years.
  • Charles died on 20 July 1918 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Sarah died on 12 May 1884. Both are buried in the Highland Cemetery. Five children are known to born to this union.
