Description

  • Lucetta Fassett was born 11 July 1828 in Enosburg, Franklin County, Vermont. She married Nathaniel Piper Carter on 31 October 1848 in Nashville, New Hampshire.
  • Lucetta came to Wichita in March 1880. Soon after arriving, she started a business of taking subscriptions for magazines and periodicals. She had remarkable commercial instincts and became widely known in the magazine industry.
  • Lucetta was a philanthropist, interested in children and education, made generous donations to the Wichita Children’s Home, the Christian Service League, the First Unitarian Church, and the Fairmount College.
  • Lucetta died on 4 July 1919 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Nathanial died in October 1868. She is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Two sons are known to born to this union.
