Description

Benjamin R. Royse was born abt. 1837 in Illinois. He served in the 2nd Illinois Co. V. Calvary from Jul 1861- Aug 1864. He married Mabel ? in 1883.
Ben served as sheriff of Wichita in 1893-1896. In 1895, the sheriff was instrumental in shutting down all the saloons in Wichita. After his stint as sheriff, Ben became manager of the Acme Harvest Co. before moving to Dodge City.
Ben had moved to Englewood, California by 1940, when his wife died. She was buried in Dodge City, Kansas.
