Description
- John Wesley Hartzell was born 14 Oct 1838 in Illinois. John married Jennie A Ryan Walling on 12 September 1883.
- John worked for the Topeka Transportation and Omnibus Company, where he built the first street car railway, a horse-car railway, before coming to Wichita and building the Emporia Street railway car line in 1883. He was the projector and builder of the Wichita street railway, a member of the first board of directors of the Water Works Company. John was accredited for building the first storm sewerage in Wichita.
- John owned the south fraction of Riverside Park at one time and called it Hartzell Park. More than one fair was influenced by his splendid executive ability.
- John died 8 Dec 1906 in Valejo, Solano County, California.
