Description
- George Henry Hamilton was born 4 April 1875 in Hoopeston, Vermillion County, Illinois. George received his bachelors of science degree at Olivet college in 1894 and took graduate work at Harvard for the next two years. He attended the Northwestern University law school from 1898 – 1901, the year he was admitted to the bar. He married Anna Russell on 18 September 1907. Ann was born abt. 1887 in Illinois.
- George began his banking career in Watseka, Illinois in 1930. He served in the Illinois state legislature from 1906 until he moved to Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas in 1912.
- George worked at State Savings Bank when he arrived in Wichita, which he purchased shortly after. The bank merged with Fourth National Bank in 1922 where he held office as vice-president before becoming president until 1932 when he accepted the governorship of the federal reserve bank in Kanas City.
- George was elected as a city commissioner in 1921-1923. He served as the 25th mayor of Wichita in 1922. In 1927, he was appointed a member of the board of regents of Wichita University and served on that board for five years.
- George died 20 January 1948 and Ann died on 27 May 1937, both in Wichita. Both are buried in the Old Mission Mausoleum in Wichita.
